Frequently Asked Questions about Reiki,
Answered Honestly

Is Reiki scientifically proven?

Reiki is a traditional energetic practice, and many people describe relaxation, calm and other positive experiences from it. At the same time, the energetic concepts behind Reiki, and the existence or transfer of Reiki energy itself, are not scientifically proven. Reiki does not replace medical or psychotherapeutic treatment. I find it important to be open about that, while still valuing Reiki as a practice in its own right.

Does health insurance cover the cost?

Reiki is generally not covered by statutory health insurance in Germany. Coverage can vary, particularly with private or supplementary insurance, so it's worth checking directly with your provider.

Are there any negative experiences with Reiki?

Reiki is generally considered a gentle, low-risk practice. Some people report tiredness, unfamiliar sensations, or noticing emotions or physical sensations more strongly after a treatment. How Reiki is experienced is individual and can vary from treatment to treatment. Unusual, strong or persistent physical or emotional symptoms shouldn't simply be put down to Reiki, and are worth having medically checked if needed.

What is a Reiki healing crisis?

"Healing crisis" is a term used within Reiki and other complementary practices, not a scientifically recognised medical diagnosis. It's used to describe temporary experiences some people mention after a treatment, such as tiredness, restlessness, heightened emotions or increased body awareness. This is not scientifically proven.

How often should you have Reiki?

There's no fixed rule. Some people enjoy Reiki occasionally, while others choose treatments at regular intervals for a period of time. You can always start with a single treatment and see what feels right for you. View prices →

What should you keep in mind after a Reiki treatment?

There are no special rules after a Reiki treatment. Give yourself a little time to notice how you feel, rest if you need to, and simply continue with your day in whatever way feels good for you. If anything feels unusual or persists, it's not automatically a "healing crisis", and it's worth having it checked.

What does Reiki feel like?

Reiki is experienced very individually. Some people feel warmth, tingling or deep relaxation, others notice emotions or subtle shifts. Some even see images or colours during a treatment. There's no particular feeling you're supposed to have during a treatment.
